LibGuides: AAPI Heritage Month (May 2024): Home

In 1992, Congress designated May as Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.

It was designed to observe the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad in May, 1869. During the construction of said railroad, the majority of laborers were of Chinese descent and were Chinese immigrants. It was also chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese immigrants in May, 1843.
