Women's History Month: Journals and Articles

Bitch seeks to be a fresh, revitalizing voice in contemporary feminism, one that welcomes complex arguments and refuses to ignore the contradictory and often uncomfortable realities of life in an unequivocally gendered world. We have a diverse audience, which keeps the dialogue and the movement we’re a part of dynamic and strong. We are also uniquely situated to draw in young readers who are at a critical moment in their lives—a moment when they are discovering feminism and activism, finding answers to who they are, and questioning the definitions of gender, sexuality, power and agency prescribed by the mainstream media.

Two‐year colleges are an increasingly used but understudied pathway to STEM degrees for women from historically underserved backgrounds. This chapter discusses the community college promise in solving the gender gap in STEM attainment, as well as related research findings and directions.

This chapter reports on interviews with women leaders finding that transformational learning contributes to new mental models for leadership.

The article focuses on the legal research occurred related to the experience of the Asian American women. Topics discussed include barriers like stereotyping for the success of Asian American women, exclusion of the women under glass and bamboo ceiling theories and employment discrimination occurring at the workplaces. It also discusses various ways for the removal of barriers in their path of success.

Latina migrant women in California in the post 9/11 era experience structural vulnerability that extends beyond their undocumented status, residence in poor neighborhoods with gangs, employment in informal sector jobs to their reproductive bodies. Although unauthorized women may access prenatal health, often they are intimidated or are unaware, and face many barriers to accessing reproductive health related to language, transportation, or their low incomes and their ignorance about their bodies. Research on those migrants who do access reproductive health illustrates they experience subjectification in U.S. institutions and neglect and even obstetric violence in Mexican institutions. In this transnational context, the nonprofit organization, California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, has organized an Instituto de Autonomía y Justicia with outreach to Spanish-speaking Latina migrants.

Although various forms of religiousness have been found to be associated with women’s body image, sexuality, and personal and professional roles, these studies have failed to examine multiple aspects of religiousness and femininity (i.e., conformity to feminine norms) concurrently. The current study explored the association between femininity and religiousness among women using multivariate definitions of these constructs. As hypothesised, there were multiple significant associations between religiousness and femininity.
