Whiteness - Whiteness is an idea developed by Europeans as an integral part of the processes of the oppression of the peoples of the Third World through colonialism and slavery. Like the concept of race, the idea of whiteness is socially constructed, that is, it has no biological meaning. Instead, it was invented by Europeans as a means to unite and create solidarity among the different peoples of Europe and to distinguish them as “whites” from nonwhites as a means to facilitate the oppression of the latter.- Encyclopedia of African-American Politics
