From the 1970s until his death in 2007, Jerry Falwell merged American nationalism with an end-times approach to the Bible known as dispensationalism. In the process, he corrupted both, while creating a novel way for conservative Christians to understand current events as the fulfillment of prophecy. He taught that the events of the Cold War had been divinely foretold in the Bible and that America was God's chosen nation in these present "end times." By implementing his conservative economics known as "biblical morality," the country could be "saved" and would survive the coming wrath of God. This message, which was otherwise on the margins of American public life, found resonance in the backlash to the civil rights movement and especially in Ronald Reagan, a fellow believer in the end-times battle of Armageddon. In organizing his voting bloc, the Religious Right, along the lines of dispensationalism and nationalism, Falwell claimed that America had to "return" to Protestant fundamentalism as a panacea to the liberal conspiracy, which included talk of climate change, affirmative action, women's liberation (including abortion), gay rights, and a nuclear freeze. This liberal conspiracy had supposedly been biblically prophesied yet would cripple America as it faced the impending wrath of God. The movement Falwell began found its savior in Donald Trump, God's man for undoing the conspiracy and restoring unregulated capitalism and an imagined American Christian nation.

Although much has been written about the politics, leaders, and history of Palestine, less is known about how everyday working-class Palestinians exist day to day, negotiating military occupation and shifting social infrastructure. He studied painting, first at the High School of Music and Art, with fellow student Diahann Carroll, and then at the National Academy of Fine Art, before setting out to pursue acting with Herbert Berghoff, Stella Adler, and Sidney Poitier. His first film role was in The Last Angry Man, the great Paul Muni's final film. It was Muni who gave Billy the advice that sent him soaring as an actor, "You can play any character you want to play no matter who you are, no matter the way you look or the color of your skin." And Williams writes, "I wanted to be anyone I wanted to be." He writes of landing the role of a lifetime: co-starring alongside James Caan in Brian's Song, the made-for-television movie that was watched by an audience of more than fifty million people. Williams says it was "the kind of interracial love story America needed." And when, as the first Black character in the Star Wars universe, he became a true pop culture icon, playing Lando Calrissian in George Lucas's The Empire Strikes Back ("What I presented on the screen people didn't expect to see"). When It Rains by
When it was first released in 1982, When It Rains was one of the earliest published literary works in the O'odham language. Speakers from across generations shared poems that showcased the aesthetic of the written word and aimed to spread interest in reading and writing in O'odham. The poems capture brief moments of beauty, the loving bond between family members, and a deep appreciation of Tohono O'odham culture and traditions, as well as reverent feelings about the landscape and wildlife native to the Southwest. A motif of rain and water is woven throughout the poetry in When It Rains, tying in the collection's title to the importance of this life-giving and sustaining resource to the Tohono O'odham people. With the poems in both O'odham and English, the volume serves as an important reminder of the beauty and changeability of the O'odham language.
