A libguide on how to use the library's access to the Films on Demand video service.

Films on Demand front page

Searching Films on Demand is very straightforward.

You can use the search bar at the top of the page (highlighted as 2), use the dropdown menu for categories and subjects (highlighted as 1), or click a video thumbnail on the front page to open directly to a video.

To perform an advanced search (similar to searching a database), click Advanced Search.

The Advanced Search lets you use multiple search criteria to refine your search.

Enter your main search term in the top field, then add any other terms (using boolean terms AND or OR).

Search Options allows you to select what type of media will return in your search, including full videos and video segments.

Above is an example of an advanced search. We're targeting videos including Ukraine and America as the topics, with 2022. Under Search Options, we select Videos.

Six different general filter types can help you sort your results. These are optional!

This includes types of media, different languages, and the copyright years.

Advanced Filters can also be used, including recently released videos and captions.

The search results are sorted between Videos and Audio.

Both types can include full videos and segments.

A video is a segment if there is (SEGMENT) next to the title. In this case, the title is the name of the segment of the full video.

The full video's title is underneath the segment's name.

When opening a video, you'll see several segments.

1. Segment List

For longer videos, all subsections are listed here. Segments can be clicked on to move to that section of the video.

There is also a button to load a transcript for the video.

2. Tag List

These are tags associated with the video. You can click each tag to search Films on Demand for videos and audio. This is a great way to expand your information search!

3. Cite

Click the Citation buttoncitation button to open the citation window. Formats include MLA, APA, and more.

You can choose from a variety of citation types, including MLA and APA.

4. Add to

This tool lets you add the video and/or segment to playlists and folders, which can be created if you create a profile.
