eBooks - How to Use & Access Through EBSCO

A guide on how to use eBooks through the library using the EBSCOhost eBooks feature.

How to Download & View eBooks

  • You can download eBooks & sections of eBooks through EBSCOhost. Once you open a book from the search results screen, you can look directly into a section of the book (through the in-browser PDF viewer) or directly download (borrow) the eBook.When accessing the eBook through your browser, you can open the book in a variety of formats.
    • The PDF view opens in your browser. You can download specific sections (chapters) of the book.
      • Downloading a chapter or section is limited by copyright law, dictating how many pages can be saved at one time.

  • When you click the Download eBook (Borrow) button, you will need to sign in using your MyPortal credentials.
    • Using an EBSCOhost eBook (or database) account is helpful in this situation. It allows you to manage your borrowed eBooks, your borrowing windows, and more.

  • After you log in, the Download window will change and show the formats and terms of borrowing.
  • You can borrow an eBook a maximum of 21 days (3 weeks). You can return the eBook at any time during those 3 weeks.
  • When borrowing from EBSCOhost, you will need to have Adobe Digital Editions installed.
    • This applies to both desktop PCs, Macs, and mobile devices.
    • If you download without Adobe Digital Editions, the files will not open.
    • Clicking the checkbox will enable the Full Download button.
  • The file will be downloaded to your chosen directory. Double-click the file to open in your preferred app.

Downloading Chapters or Sections

  • When choosing to download sections or chapters of an eBook, a different Download window will open in the browser.
  • The page limit to download (borrow) is 60 pages, divided up in any amounts.
  • Downloading chapters, pages, or sections can only be downloaded in PDF format.
    • You do not need Adobe Digital Editions to download chapters or sections.
