Library Support for Online Teaching: Textbook Availability & Options

Textbook Availability

Fall 2020 Textbook Distribution Update, 8/26/20

Do you have classroom materials to distribute to students for the fall quarter? The Foothill Library has designed a limited textbook distribution program for the quarter to help students obtain the materials they need. Sunnyvale Center will serve as the distribution site and students will be able to pick up their materials during the first two weeks of fall.

Additionally, we are opening up a request form that you can use to contact us if you have any items that aren't traditionally distributed by the library, but you need to have in the hands of your students in order to maximize their learning opportunities for the fall. Please fill out this form to tell us a bit about what you need and we will be in touch shortly to work out the details.

We ask you to please be patient and stay tuned for further information on the details, as well as more targeted emails to those of you that teach classes that we will provide textbooks for. Our sincere apologies that we will not be able to cover every class, nor be able to provide every textbook for every student. However, rest assured that we are doing everything we can to meet those needs as much as possible.

We encourage faculty to consider options other than print textbooks/materials for Fall Quarter. The library is committed to helping you identify potential options. Please see other information in this guide about our licensed electronic books, open educational resources, and public domain books.

Thank you, and please look out for a follow-up email with more information and details to share with your students soon.

Request form available at https://fhda.libwizard.com/f/falldistribution.

Please check back for updates.

OER Resource Collections in Canvas Commons

A search of "CVC" in the Canvas Commons will show you the CVC-OEI's OpenStax resources. Additionally, a search for "ASCCC" will show you resources that the ASCCC OERI Initiative is adding to the Commons. You can import a Commons resource directly into a Canvas course shell - where its contents will be added to whatever is already in the course. The only elements that the new content will override will be the image in the Canvas dashboard and the licensing indicated on the Frontpage.
