De Anza now uses OverDrive Academic, which is accessed through Libby! Enjoy eBooks and audiobooks on any device, anywhere!

Mobile App

Using the App

Navigation

When first accessing the app, it will prompt you to find your library. Type in "De Anza College" and the library will pop up. It may be listed under Cupertino or Los Altos.

Navigating in the app is very straight forward. After signing into using your MyPortal credentials, you'll be presented with the college's collection. Tap on a collection to open up that book grouping or tap on a book to open its item page.

Here's an example of the card list with multiple library cards attached to it. You can tap on a card to switch your prioritized library to that library. Currently, I have De Anza College active as my preferred library (denoted by the star).

The app will intelligently search other institutions linked to your account when you're looking for books and audiobooks!

Searching

You can search using book title, author name, or subject matter. The best search terms are titles and authors.

You can limit your searches using the catalog filters. This will change depending on what library you are searching through. De Anza College's library currently has 4 default filters you can use.

Your recent searches are listed at the bottom.

Accessing Items

When you tap on the photo of the item's cover, it'll open into the item pane.

This is where you can see the synopsis of the book, a snippet of marketing copy, and ways to access.

You can click "Borrow" to start the borrowing process. Clicking the card icon next to it will show you if you have other libraries with item availability.

"Read Sample" lets you read a small section of the book without checking the book out.

"Tag" lets you create your own collections.

You can also click on the smart tags below "Tag" to look at the collection using that metadata tag.

Borrowing Books

When you're ready to check an item out, click "Borrow". The borrowing screen will pop up.

This screen shows you how many items you have loaned out to you, how many items you have on hold, and the borrowing terms.

For eBooks, you will be able to select what format you'd like to read the book in. By default, you will borrow it in the Libby app. You can attach a Kindle account to Libby to read your eBooks on a Kindle.

Do note: not all books are available as Kindle books.
